In the apartment estates and shopping centres, the work is in basements, yards and kitchens. We build connection pipes from €25/m, pump out and decommission old septic tanks and clean grease traps from €90.
Imanta: where the estates end and private houses begin
Imanta is a large residential neighbourhood in western Pārdaugava with rail links and connections towards Jūrmala. Kurzemes prospekts and Jūrmalas gatve lead to the extensive apartment estates and shopping centres, while on the edges of the neighbourhood there are detached-house areas and new developments.
The estates have been connected to the city sewer for a long time. In the streets of detached houses the picture varies: some properties still have a septic tank or holding tank, while others have already connected to the network built in the neighbourhood under a Cohesion Fund project. So one sentence in your request about what is in your yard today will be useful.
The Cohesion Fund network in Imanta: who covers the costs
Imanta is one of the neighbourhoods covered by Riga City Council Binding Regulations No. RD-25-22-sn on connections to the networks built in phases 5 and 6 of the project “Water Management Development in Riga”. The municipality covers design within set limits and pays €1,800 towards construction. The full construction cost can be received by:
- people with a Group I or II disability;
- needy or low-income households;
- politically repressed persons;
- members of large families;
- recipients of a survivor's pension;
- some pensioners living alone (see the text of the regulations for the exact conditions).
Construction must be completed by 31 December 2026, while the application to Rīgas ūdens (Riga's water utility) can be submitted until 1 April 2027. There is no co-financing for a water supply connection, only for sewerage.

What to prepare so the application does not have to be redone
- Technical conditions A service request to Rīgas ūdens. Without the technical conditions, neither the paperwork nor the work can start.
- Connection plan A construction specialist prepares a site plan of the connection pipe or an explanatory memorandum and submits it to the Construction Information System (BIS).
- Construction and as-built survey We build the connection pipe up to the control manhole; a surveyor measures it before the trench is backfilled.
- Invoices and contract Keep the construction invoices, the as-built survey plan and the Rīgas ūdens contract, because they are needed for the support application.
Rīgas ūdens says that, with approvals, the whole process usually takes 4–6 months. If the deadline is close, start with the technical conditions this week, not after the holidays. The trench can also be dug in cold weather; on what changes: work in winter. All the steps: connecting to the mains sewer.
For apartment blocks and shopping centres
On the estates our client is usually the building's property manager or the owner of a shop or café. The city network ends at the control manhole, and everything in the yard and the basement is the building's responsibility.
It is worth the property manager drawing up a list of all the building's manholes, pumps and separators and when they are serviced. Then several points can be cleaned in one trip, and emergency call-outs after heavy rain are needed less often.
- Grease trap cleaning for catering outlets in shopping centres; several separators at one address can be emptied in one trip.
- Sewage pump stations in basements and pump repair.
- Basement pumping after heavy rain or sewage backflow.
- Replacement of sewer manholes in the yard network.
The large spaces inside the blocks and the railway line affect the route: some buildings can be reached from one side only. In your request, tell us which street to drive in from and where the lid is.
If a detached house keeps its septic tank
Until a connection has been built, the system must be registered with the Riga Housing and Environment Department. The septic tank must be pumped out at least once a year, and a declaration of the volume removed in the previous year must be submitted by 1 May. If the number of declared residents changes, this must be reported, because in Riga the minimum emptying frequency of a holding tank depends on it. Septic tank pumping in Imanta costs from €75 for up to 4 m³ and from €90 for up to 6 m³.
